Societies
There are many radiological associations and societies, each with their own areas of interest. We have tried to group them into distinct categories to make them easier to find.
Major organisations
Royal College of Radiologists (RCR)
The professional body responsible for the specialty of clinical oncology and clinical radiology throughout the UK. The College also sets and monitors the educational curriculum for radiology trainees.
British Institute of Radiology (BIR)
An independent multidisciplinary organisation whose membership is open to everyone with an interest in radiology and radiation oncology. The BIR undertake a wide range of activities, including publishing, the organisation of scientific meetings and conferences and the provision of library and information services.
Society of Radiologists in Training (SRT)
An independent multidisciplinary organisation whose membership is open to everyone with an interest in radiology and radiation oncology. The BIR undertake a wide range of activities, including publishing, the organisation of scientific meetings and conferences and the provision of library and information services.
European Society of Radiology (ESR)
An apolitical, non-profit organisation, dedicated to promoting and coordinating the scientific, philanthropic, intellectual and professional activities of Radiology in all European countries. Membership is only €11 per year and the website has some excellent online resources!
Radiological Society of North America (RSNA)
A professional membership society committed to excellence in patient care through education and research. Over 40,000 medical imaging professionals are members, including radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists and allied scientists. The RSNA also hosts the world's largest annual radiology meeting.
Academy of Medical Educators (AOME)
A professional organisation for all those involved in medical education – the education and training of students and practitioners in medicine, dentistry and veterinary science.
Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME)
An association seeking to improve the quality of medical education by bringing together individuals and organisations with interests and responsibilities in medical and healthcare education.
